About Reiki

Reiki in Japanese “Universal life energy” is a method of healing founded by Dr Usai at the beginning of the last century. It is a very relaxing form of hands-on healing (although it can also performed “hands-off” and distantly) which helps to balance the energy in the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. It is non religious and available for all. Reiki helps to promote the body’s ability to heal itself and has been found helpful in various ways, particularly pain relief.

We are all made of energy as is everything around us, when this energy becomes unbalanced or blocked we can experience negative consequences. Reiki helps to restore the balance of our energy so that we are better able to heal ourselves on every level.

It has been found to help the following problems:

  • Stress

  • Pain

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Enhanced immune function

  • Decrease heart rate and diastolic blood pressure

  • See http://www.reikicouncil.org.uk/ for research into the effectiveness of Reiki.

What happens during a Reiki session?

The recipient sits or lays down fully dressed, a blanket may be placed over you for warmth and comfort. The practitioner begins at the head and places their hands on or near the recipient moving through the reiki positions down the body until they reach the feet. This is initially done on the front of the body, then the recipient will turn over so that the back of the body may be treated. Recipients may not feel anything during the session, others may feel heat or tingling at certain points in their body or have an emotional response. The room will be comfortable, peaceful, lightly scented and with soft music playing.

About me

I became a qualified Reiki 2 practitioner in 2004 while at university. My experience with Reiki has shown its effectiveness in relieving pain, reducing stress, aiding sleep and general relaxation. If nothing else reiki is great for relaxation and creating a space for quiet time. I have personally found my own health is always improved when I practice reiki on myself daily. Having always been a spiritual person reiki is a great way to tune into the universal life energy every day and helps to maintain that connection.

I am also a qualified psychological counsellor and am available at Southside Counselling for individual counselling

The Five Reiki Principles

BY DR.MIKAO USUI

1 - Just for today, I will not be angry.

Anger at others or oneself or at the whole world, creates serious blockages in one's energy.  It is the most complex inner enemy. Reiki is an excellent tool to remove anger blockages which have accumulated in the body over years, but it cannot remove the residue of current anger which occurs daily.  Letting go of anger brings Peace into the Mind.

2 - Just for today, I will not worry.

While anger deals with past and present events, worry deals with future ones. Although worry is not always a negative phenomena, endless worries may fill one's head, and each one bores a small hole in one's body and soul. While anger requires a focused Reiki treatment to remove obstacles, worry requires the energy to be spread throughout the entire body.  Letting go of worry, brings healing into the Body.

3 - Just for today, I will be grateful.

Be grateful from your heart. Inner intention is the important element in this principle. Simple things as thanks, forgiveness, smile, good words, gratitude can improve others life and make them happy. Being thankful brings Joy into the Spirit.

4 - Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Support yourself and your family respectably, without harming others. Earn a respectable living, live a life of honour.

Working Honestly brings Abundance into the Soul.

5- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

Honour your parents, honour your teachers, honour your elders. Being Kind brings Love into the Will.
